Bethlehem, PA – In the latest round of polls, Lehigh was ranked No. 7 by the NWCA and No. 9 by Intermat. The Mountain Hawks jumped up in both polls from last week’s rankings after winning the Virginia Duals last weekend.
The No. 7 ranking also ties the season high for Lehigh. Additionally, seven of Lehigh’s ten starters are rated in the top 20 of their weight class, including five in the top ten. All-American Jon Trenge headlines the crunch and is ranked No. 2 by both the Amateur Wrestling News and Intermat. Freshman Troy Letters is the nation’s No. 3/4 at 165. Also ranked in the top ten are two other freshmen, Derek Zinck, the consensus No. 7 at 157, and Cory Cooperman, No. 8 at 133 and 174’s No. 10, junior Brad Dillon. Lehigh’s other ranked mat men are freshman Travis Frick at 184 and junior heavyweight Joe Sahl.
The Mountain Hawks defeated three other nationally ranked programs, Edinboro, Penn State, and Nebraska, en route to the title.
Lehigh returns to action on Sunday when the grapplers travel to Hofstra for a dual match at 1:00. The match will be broadcast live on both 1230 AM, The Sports Monster and on the Lehigh website at www.lehigh.edu, with Ross Nunamaker calling the action.
