Lehigh in top ten, Trenge No. 1

Bethlehem, PA – The latest wrestling rankings were released Tuesday, with Lehigh remaining in the No. 7 spot in The Wrestling Mall Poll. The Mountain Hawks also rose one spot in the newest poll by InterMat, securing the No. 8 position.
In the individual rankings, InterMat ranked seven Lehigh matmen are in the top 20 in their respective weight classes. The Wrestling Mall puts five Mountain Hawks among the best in their ratings.
Highlighting the individual rankings is junior Jon Trenge. Trenge is ranked No. 1 in both polls at 197. Freshman Troy Letters, 165, is the only other Mountain Hawk rated in the top 10 by both services, holding The Wrestling Mall’s fifth spot and No. 9 by InterMat.
Minnesota had held the top spot in each poll, until a 24-11 loss to Iowa last week. That opened the door for Oklahoma State to climb to the top in both polls. Iowa also moves to second in each poll, followed by the former No. 1 Golden Gophers.
Lehigh opens its regular season when Michigan comes to town on Friday in the last match at the original Grace Hall. The Wolverines are ranked No. 6 by InterMat and No. 9 by The Wrestling Mall. InterMat ranks five Michigan grapplers among the elite in their weights, compared to four in The Wrestling Mall’s ratings.
Friday’s match is the first complete sellout at Grace Hall since a dual match with Iowa State on January 10, 1976. The match will be on live television, courtesy of Service Electric Cable TV-2. All the action can also be heard on the radio on The Sports Monster 1230 AM, as well as on the Lehigh website at www.lehigh.edu.
