Bucknell too much for Lehigh

Bethlehem, PA – Sophomore Barrie Cominsky had a goal, an assist, five ground balls and caused five turnovers, but Lehigh (4-2, 0-2 Patriot League) could not survive the wind, rain, or Patriot League foe Bucknell (2-4, 1-2 Patriot League) in an 11-3 loss on Wednesday.
Lehigh fell behind early, as Bucknell scored four times in the games first 5:40. By the time the first half ended, the Bison had tacked on three more goals for a 7-0 lead. Bucknell built the lead as high as nine before junior Ella Studdiford finally got the Mountain Hawks onto the scoreboard at the 45:16 mark. That would be as close as Lehigh could get as the two teams traded goals down the stretch. Sophomore Barrie Cominsky scored with an assist from Kellan Van Hoesen to make the score 10-2, and sohomore Jen Fleming picked up Lehigh’s final score as Cominsky added an assist.
"They came out and got right after us," head coach Judy Baxter said. "We were going right into the wind and rain in the first half, and when we fell behind it made it a tough uphill battle. We had some chances, though, but their goalie played very well."
Despite the difference on the scoreboard, Bucknell only had one more shot than the Mountain Hawks, who also had an advantage in turnovers and ground balls.
Bucknell’s Nicole Kallis turned away 12 Lehigh shots, surrendering only three goals in over 58 minutes, before earning the rest of the afternoon off. Andrea Paraud and Amy Hasler each scored three goals in the win, and Suzanne Raffaele added a pair of goals and two assists.
The Mountain Hawks will look to snap their two game losing streak when they travel to Sacred Heart for a game at 3:00 on Friday afternoon.
