BETHLEHEM, Pa. – This year's Eugene M. '35 and Harriet Henry Fall Sports Banquet was held on Sunday, January 11, at the University Center, and was sponsored by the Lehigh Athletics Partnership. Three Mountain Hawk athletes captured awards on the afternoon, in a program that included dinner, presentation of awards, and reflections from head coach Julie Mazer and members of the team.
The department’s highest honor is the Scholar-Athlete Award, which is presented to the team member who in the eyes of his/her team mates exemplifies the ideal of the scholar-athlete. This year’s award was given to junior midfielder Lindsey Smith. A multi-year member of the Dean’s List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Smith carries a 3.45 cumulative grade point average while majoring in Lehigh’s rigorous industrial engineering program.
The Coaches Award is presented to the individual who made significant contributions to the well being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement or special leadership. This year, sophomore goalkeepers Jessica Miller and Lilia Stefaniwsky shared the award, for their commitment and dedication for the core values which the award represents. The sophomore tandem split time in the goal cage this season for the Mountain Hawks with both players displaying a positive team-first attitude in supporting teammates and each other on the playing field.
Stefaniwsky appeared in 12 games, making six starts and totaling 82 saves, while Miller made 85 saves in 13 games, 11 of which were starts. The duo combined on Lehigh’s first shutout in nearly three years: a 3-0 blanking of Saint Francis on September 17.
