DAVIDSON, N.C. – Lehigh opened up play at the adidas Classic with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against tournament host Davidson Friday night at Alumni Stadium. Senior Amy Mastromonaco scored her first career goal to give Lehigh the lead in the 60th minute, but Stephanie Gerow equalized with just over 12 minutes to play. Neither team was able to score in the final 12 minutes of regulation and after 20 scoreless minutes of overtime, Lehigh now stands at 1-1-1 on the year, while Davidson remains unbeaten at 2-0-2.

“After a long bus ride yesterday, we went out and gave a good effort for the first road game of the season,” said head coach Manny Oudin. “Davidson certainly had the better of the play the first 20 minutes or so, but we woke up after that and played pretty well over the final 110 minutes. Going up in the second half was big for us but we gave up the equalizer with 12 minutes left, so we’ll have to do better with that moving forward.”

The host Wildcats took the lead 18 minutes in as Kyri Bye-Nagel scored her third goal of the season on a header to the far post.

A pair of freshman combined to tie the game for the Brown and White six minutes later. Off a Lehigh throw in, Jana Basubas found Ali MacLeod, who headed the ball off the crossbar and in for her first career score. The game went into halftime tied at one, with Davidson out shooting Lehigh 9-7.

The Mountain Hawks took the lead with Mastromonaco’s goal on the hour mark after Wildcat keeper Christy Carry mishandled a corner kick by Lehigh senior Emily Means. Lehigh was unable to hold the lead, however, as Gerow scored an unassisted goal on a low shot to the near side in the 78th minute.

The game then went into overtime, where Davidson out-shot Lehigh 2-1 in the first 10 minute period, but the Mountain Hawks mustered the only three chances of the second 10 minute period.

Davidson finished with a 19-16 advantage in shots, while Lehigh enjoyed an 8-6 edge in corner kicks. Junior Liz Carlos made her season debut for the Brown and White and led the Mountain Hawks with four shots. Sophomore Lauren Mains stopped five shots in goal for Lehigh, while Carry made six stops for Davidson.

The Mountain Hawks will play their final game at the adidas Classic on Sunday when they face the College of Charleston, which improved to 5-0 on the year with a 3-0 blanking of Richmond earlier Friday. Sunday’s game kicks off at 1 p.m. from Alumni Stadium.
