DAVIDSON, N.C. – Lehigh wrapped up its weekend at the adidas Classic with a 1-0 loss to the College of Charleston, Sunday afternoon at Davidson’s Alumni Stadium. Megan Manthey delivered the game’s only goal for the Cougars who remain undefeated at 6-0-0 on the season. The Mountain Hawks out-shot the Cougars by a 13-10 margin, but were shutout for the first time this season and had to settle for a tie and a loss in two games in North Carolina. Lehigh is now 1-2-1 on the season.

College of Charleston produced the game’s only goal in the 29th minute when Hope Atkinson received a long ball and after entering the 18-yard box, fed the ball to Manthey who placed the ball inside the far post to give the Cougars the lead.

Lehigh’s 13-10 shot advantage included a 7-3 edge in the second half. The Mountain Hawks best chance at an equalizer came in the 86th minute when a shot from freshman Ali MacLeod was cleared off the line by the Cougars’ Emily Morgan.

Junior Liz Carlos made her first start of the season and led the Mountain Hawks with four shots. Classmate Natalie Hojnacki and freshman Jana Basubas added two shots each. Lehigh earned five corner kicks to just three for the Cougars and the Mountain Hawks were whistled for six fouls, as opposed to eight against College of Charleston.

Sophomore Lauren Mains made two saves for the Brown and White, while her counterpart Erin Smith stopped seven Lehigh shots to earn the shutout.

With the victory, the College of Charleston clinched the adidas Classic championship with a 2-0 tournament record.

The Mountain Hawks will be back on the pitch on Friday when they travel to Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph’s. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
