PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – Lehigh faced off against Villanova in a non-league game on Wednesday, and despite scoring the game’s first run, the Mountain Hawks could not handle Villanova’s offensive firepower, as they lost 11-2.  Brendan McGaheran and Logan Marshall both had RBI in the game for Lehigh, who falls to 14-20 on the year with the loss.  The Wildcats improve to 15-15.

Joe Ercolano scored the first run of the game for Lehigh in the top of the first.  He led the game off by reaching base on a fielding error at second base, and came around to score later in the inning on a single up the middle by Marshall.

A couple of costly two-out Lehigh errors in the bottom of the first and second allowed Villanova to put four runs on the board, and take a 4-1 lead after two.  The Wildcats put up two more runs in the fourth inning before the Mountain Hawks struck again.

Pinch hitter Greg Turcotte led off the top of the fifth with a double to left field.  McGaheran drove him home on a single through the left side of the infield, to cut Villanova’s lead to 6-2.

The Wildcats responded by pounding out four runs in the bottom half of the inning and had a 10-2 lead heading into the sixth.  Villanova added one more run in the seventh to pick up its 15th win of the season.

Mike Lebo (0-1) was given the loss on the hill, giving up just two earned runs on four hits in 3.2 innings of work.

The Mountain Hawks return to the diamond this weekend for a four game series against Lafayette on the Goodman Campus.  The teams will play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday, with the first pitch for both games getting underway at noon.  Saturday’s games will also be broadcast on Lehighsports.com, with streaming provided by Yahoo! Sports.
