Senior two-sport standout Christy Smith was honored as the Graduating Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the most prestigious award given by the athletics department.  A member of the field hockey and women’s lacrosse programs, Smith has earned five All-Patriot League selections and two All-Region nods.  An industrial engineering major, Smith maintains a 3.89 grade point average in the classroom and was the 2007 Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Other award winners included senior football player John Reese and senior softball player Kate Marvel.  Reese garnered the Graduating Male Athlete of the Year Award.  A three time All-Patriot League selection, Reese anchored the Lehigh offensive line throughout his career, starting every single game at center during the past three years.  A two time captain and 2007 All-American, Reese led the Mountain Hawks “O” line to the top spot in the Patriot League in fewest sacks allowed this past season, while as a junior, he helped pave the way for the top scoring offense in the league.

Marvel was named the Graduating Female Athlete of the Year, for her accomplishments on the softball field.  A three time All-Patriot League selection and two time All-Region pick, Marvel was the 2005 Patriot League Rookie of the Year and the 2007 Player of the Year.  Marvel is a career .352 hitter who ranks in the top five in school annals in hits, triples, and bases on balls.

Senior men’s basketball player Bryan White earned the Sportsmanship Award and the John A. Cable award, as the top graduating male leader.  As the lone senior on this year’s basketball team, White was asked to take on an even greater amount of responsibility that usual and he exceeded everyone’s expectations with the job he did.  A team captain, White was forced to deal with a coaching change during the off-season and is credited for holding his younger teammates together all season long.

Freshmen Lauren Dykstra and Rob Keefer were named the top freshmen athletes, respectively.  Dykstra, the John Steckbeck Award Winner, was a First-Team All-Patriot League selection in women’s lacrosse as well as the league’s Rookie of the Year after scoring 64 goals.  Those 64 goals were the most ever by a freshman at Lehigh and are tied for the fourth most in a single season in Lehigh women’s lacrosse history.  Dykstra won five Patriot League Rookie of the Week awards, which are tied for the most in league history.

Keefer, the J.
