BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh had six players named to the 2008 All-Patriot League teams, it was announced on Wednesday.  The six selections are the most in program history and tied American for the most this season in the league.  Leading the way was freshman standout Lauren Dykstra who earned a spot on the First-Team.  The Mountain Hawks five Second-Team selections were juniors Sarah Fudin and Sara MacIntyre, sophomores Inneke Carmola and Kelsy Ferris and freshman Allison Thomas.

Dykstra had the greatest season for a freshman in Lehigh women’s lacrosse history, scoring 61 goals and totaling 76 points, both team highs.  The 61 goals are the most-ever for a freshman in program history and are also the most by any player at Lehigh since 1995.  Dykstra found the back of the net in every game this season, including a career-high eight times in a win over archrival Lafayette.  Dykstra scored three or more goals on 12 occasions and she notched a career-best nine points at Fairfield.

Fudin helped anchor a Lehigh defense that got stronger and stingier as the season wore on.  The New York native totaled 38 ground balls, 11 draw controls and 20 caused turnovers.  The 20 caused turnovers led the Mountain Hawks, while her 38 GBs were tied for fifth best.  Fudin came on strong towards the end of the season, registering 15 ground balls, four draw controls and 10 caused turnovers in Lehigh’s final six regular season games.  This is Fudin’s second consecutive selection to the All-Patriot League team.

A three time All-League honoree, MacIntyre netted 37 goals this season, good for third best on the squad.  The junior attack also added 35 ground balls, 34 draw controls and seven free position goals.  MacIntyre scored a goal in every game but two this season, topping out with a five-goal effort in a win over Canisius.  The finance major scored three or more goals six times, and her nine ground balls versus Lafayette were a career-high.

The third part of Lehigh’s high scoring offensive trio was Carmola, who is second on the team with 39 goals and 59 points.  Carmola, who led the Brown and White in assists with 20, was second only to Dykstra in shots with 107 and she also scooped up 29 ground balls, won 16 draw controls and caused three turnovers.  Carmola garnered two Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors, including one after she scored four goals and dished out two assists in a crucial league win over Navy.  A two time All-League selection, Carmola scored a season best five goals in the Mountain Hawks regular season finale, an 11-10 victory over Bucknell.  Carmola, who found the back of the net three or more times on eight occasions, has now scored a point in 33 consecutive games, the 13th longest active streak in the nation.

Ferris garners her first All-League selection after sending back 166 shots in 934 minutes of action this season.  The sophomore netminder posted a save percentage of .488, facing 415 shots for the season.  Ferris was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week following a nine-save performance in the win over Navy.  The Maryland native stopped ten or more shots in ten games in 2008, including a career-best 17 saves versus nationally ranked Vanderbilt.  Ferris ranked third in the Patriot League in save percentage and saves per game and tenth in America in total saves.

Thomas got her Lehigh career off to a strong start with 21 goals, six assists, 39 ground balls and 29 draw controls in 2008.  Four of Thomas’ goals were game-winners, including versus St. Joseph’s, LaSalle, Lafayette and Navy.  Those four game-winners led the Patriot League.  Thomas scored a career-high four goals in a league win over Holy Cross and she added hat tricks against LaSalle, Lafayette, and Marist.  Thomas finished third on the team in draw controls, fourth in ground balls and goals and fifth in points.

The 2008 Patriot League women’s lacrosse major award winners will be announced on Thursday evening in conjunction with the pre-tournament banquet.

Lehigh and its six All-League honorees return to action on Friday afternoon at the 2008 Patriot League Tournament in Washington, D.C.  The number-three seed Mountain Hawks take on No.2 Colgate in the second semifinal beginning at 3:30.  All of the action will be broadcast live on Lehighsports.com with Jeff Tourial and Steve Lomangino on the call.
