Lehigh and Penn split non-league twinbill

Joe Ercolano led off the top of the first with a double down the left field line. The Mountain Hawks recorded two quick outs, but Andy Russell was able to bring Ercolano home with a single up the middle, to give Lehigh an early 1-0 lead.
In the next inning, the Mountain Hawks loaded the bases to lead off the inning. Geoff Campbell drove in one run with a single to left field, to score Billy Swenson. Ercolano brought home the second run of the inning, reaching on a fielder’s choice, which allowed Joe Bellini to score.
That was all the offense the Mountain Hawks needed, as Mihalik shutdown the Penn bats the rest of the afternoon. It was the first career complete game for the freshman, and also the first shutout this season by a Mountain Hawk.
In game two, the Mountain Hawks scored the first run of the game, this time it was Liam O’Connor who drove home Russell on a single to left field. However, the Quakers responded in the bottom half of their inning, on a two-run double down the left field line from Tom Grandieri, to make the score 2-1.
Lehigh answered back in the next half inning on a sac fly to center field by Geoff Campbell, which allowed Greg Turcotte to score, and tie the game at 2-2. Penn was ready to strike again in the bottom half of the inning, this time putting three runs up on the board. Mike Mariano drove in two of those runs with a double to left center, which put the Quakers up 5-2 after two.
Penn added one more run in the bottom of the fourth as Adrian Thomas came into score on a wild pitch.
Mike Lebo (1-2) was hit with the loss for Lehigh, allowing five runs on six hits in two innings. Rob Russell pitched the final four innings for the Mountain Hawks, and surrendered just one run on one hit.
The Mountain Hawks return to action this weekend when they travel to Bucknell for their final league series of the year. The teams will play two doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday from
