Lehigh drops doubleheader against Army

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh lost the final two games of its four-game series with Army on Sunday, dropping the first game 5-0 and the second game 6-0. The Mountain Hawks faced two strong pitchers on the day, as they limited the Lehigh bats to just nine hits all afternoon. With the losses, the Brown and White fall to 19-25 (4-12), while the Black Knights improve to 18-20 (10-6).
Andrew Berger kept Army at-bay through the first three innings, but in the bottom of the fourth, the Black Knights struck for four runs. All four runs came across in the inning with two outs, led off with an RBI triple from Chris Simmons. Sean Rainbird followed that up with a double to left center to score Simmons, and then Kyle Stramara doubled down the right field line to score Rainbird. Tony Capozzi drove in the final run of the inning, on a single to score Stramara.
J.P. Polchinski added a sac fly to right field to score the only other run of the game, as the Black Knights came away with the win.
Berger (2-5) picked up the loss, throwing five innings and allowed all five Army runs.
In game two, Army started the scoring right away, picking up two runs in the bottom of the first. The score remained the same until the fourth when Simmons hit an RBI single to left center to give the Black Knights a 3-0. Simmons picked up another RBI in the sixth inning on a single up the middle.
The Black Knights added two more runs in the eighth inning on back-to-back solo homeruns from Kevin McKague and Polchinski.
Andrew Grim (3-2) was hit with the loss for the Mountain Hawks. He pitched seven innings and allowed four runs on eight hits.
Brendan McGaheran had two of Lehigh’s three hits in the second game, picking up a bunt single in the third and single into right field in the sixth.
