Lehigh wins wild game over Boston College

The Mountain Hawks wasted no time getting on the board, picking up two runs in the top of the first. Andy Russell started his big game off with an RBI triple in just the second at bat of the game, scoring Joe Ercolano, who singled to lead-off the game. Russell scored two plays later, on a sacrifice groundout by Matt Reitz.
Lehigh started the third inning very similar to the first, as Ercolano led the inning off by reaching base on a double down the right field line. Russell brought him in again, this time on a single.
Both teams scored five runs a piece in the next inning, as Lehigh held an 8-5 led after four innings. Ercolano and Austin Borden picked up one RBI each, while Goldman knocked in two runs on a double to right field.
The Eagles added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth, to take their first lead of the game, 9-8. The score remained the same through the seventh, when the Mountain Hawks offense came through with six runs in the top of the eighth. Russell got the scoring started with an RBI double to bring home
In the same at bat, Goldman grounded out to the pitcher, but Danny Egly was able to score from third on the play. The Brown and White added its fourth run of the inning on a two-out single to left center by McGaheran. Dan Clauson capped the inning off with a two-run homerun, his first of the season, giving Lehigh a 14-9 lead after eight and a half innings.
However, the Eagles would not go away quietly, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth and three more in the bottom of the ninth, to tie the game at 14-14.
In the top of the tenth with one away, McGaheran hit a deep ball to right center, scoring Goldman from first, to give the Mountain Hawks a 15-14 lead. Billy Swenson added an RBI sac fly to right field, scoring McGaheran, to add an insurance run.
In the bottom of the tenth, Andrew Berger recorded a one-two-three inning, to give the Mountain Hawks their third win of the season. Berger (2-1) pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing zero runs on just one hit, to pick up his second win of the season.
A total of eight Lehigh players picked up RBI in the game, led by Russell and Goldman, who each drove in three runs. The Mountain Hawks’ offense accounted for a season high 18 hits, 16 runs, four doubles, and tied their season high with four stolen bases.
Lehigh returns to action Monday afternoon for a rematch with St. Bonaventure. The Bonnies defeated the Mountain Hawks 8-7 on Saturday. Monday’s game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. from
