Mountain Hawks tripped up by Wildcats

Lehigh was out shot 44-23 on the evening and scooped up 21 ground balls to the Wildcats 28. The Mountain Hawks forced 14 Villanova turnovers and were 12-of-15 in clear attempts, but the Mountain Hawks won only 8-of-26 face-offs. Junior Eric Spirko sent back seven shots in goal in a reserve role for Lehigh and scooped up a team best four ground balls as did Mike Tabb. John Park got the start in goal for the Mountain Hawks and was credited with seven saves as well.
Villanova jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead on Wednesday in the first five minutes of the game, before Alec Hooff eventually scored Lehigh’s first goal of the night at the 4:09 mark of the first quarter. Webber came right back and scored for the Wildcats however, before Steve Marino netted his lone goal of the night with just 51 ticks left on the clock in the first. ‘Nova opened the second with two straight scores to take a 7-2 lead, before Wiener scored his first goal of the night with 13:25 left on the first half clock. The Wildcats would end the half on a 4-0 run though, taking an 11-3 lead into intermission.
Wiener opened the second half with his second score of the game and Walsh followed with his first goal of the night as Lehigh clawed back to within six at 11-5. Villanova had an answer though, scoring two straight times to go in front 13-5 at the 1:43 clip of the third. Senior David Gaunt and Walsh began the fourth with back-to-back scores to pull the Brown and White back to within six at 13-7, but the Wildcats scored the game’s final two goals, to pull away for the 15-7 victory.
