KISSIMMEE, Fla. – For the second consecutive day, Lehigh split its two contests at the Rebel Spring Games at the Osceola Sports Complex. Like the day before, the Mountain Hawks opened with a shutout victory, blanking Georgetown 5-0. Game two however, did not go Lehigh’s way as Sacred Heart scored four first inning runs to upend the Brown and White 5-2. With the split Lehigh now stands at 4-9 on the season.

Senior catcher Lauren Haney delivered the big blow against the Hoyas, breaking open a one-run game with a sixth inning grand slam, her first home run of the season. Haney’s blast followed three consecutive singles from juniors Kate Marvel, Megan Conrad and Taryn Hanley.

Lehigh scored its first run in the bottom of the second frame, when freshman Amy Piccinich was hit by a pitch, then came around to score from first base on a double by senior Heather Hamasaki, who helped her own cause in the pitcher’s circle with her fourth RBI of the season.

Hamasaki (1-1) threw the first five innings in the circle, allowing just two hits, while striking out eight and walking one to pick up her first victory since the 2005 season. Sophomore Lisa Sweeney struck out six of seven batters she faced to earn her first save of the season.

Georgetown falls to 2-14 with the loss.

In the second game of the day, Sacred Heart (3-2) jumped on Lehigh freshman Tiffany Curtis, scoring four runs on three hits and an error in the bottom of the first inning.

Lehigh scored its two runs in the fourth inning, with Hanley scoring from third on an error by second baseman Betsy Harvey, and then sophomore Ali Torborg scoring from third on an RBI groundout from Hamasaki. The Mountain Hawks mustered just two hits against the Pioneers: a fourth inning double from Haney and a fifth inning triple from Marvel.

The Mountain Hawks will continue play at the Rebel Spring Games on Thursday, with an 11:00 am game against Penn and a 1:00 pm tilt with Valparaiso.
