PRINCETON, N.J. – After falling behind early, Lehigh made a valiant comeback attempt, but the Mountain Hawks could not complete it, as they fell to the No. Princeton Tigers 4-2 on Wednesday in New Jersey.  Scoring goals for Lehigh on the night were Kalynn Davies and Kara Zweizig.  With the loss Lehigh falls to 7-7, while the No. 20 Tigers improve their record to 9-4.

Princeton got on the board first when Holly McGarvie found the back of the cage just 1:10 into the contest.  Katie Kinzer assisted on the score.  The Tigers went up 2-0 when Christina Bortz scored an unassisted goal at the 21:28 mark of the opening half.  Katherine Cope then put the home team in front by a trio of scores when she took a feed from Bortz and beat Lehigh keeper Jess Miller at the 25:22 clip to make the score 3-0.

Bortz scored her second goal of the contest at the 40:49 mark when she lifted the ball over Miller for the score.  Lehigh began its comeback at the 63:16 mark when Davies netted a goal off of a corner, with assists going to Marny Hearn and Lauren Volpe.  Zweizig knocked in a rebound with less than two minutes to play, bringing the Mountain Hawks to within two scores, but that was as close as Lehigh would get.

Lehigh was out shot 20-8 for the game, while both teams had five penalty corners.  Miller finished with three saves for the Brown and White before giving way to Lilia Stefaniwsky who stopped four Tiger shots in 24 minutes of action.  Princeton starting keeper Cynthia Wray played the entire first half and did not record a save before giving way to Jennifer King who stopped two shots in her 35 minutes of action.

“I think we did some very good things in the second half of this game,” head coach Julie Mazer said after the game.  “If we could have started the way we ended, I think we could have made it even closer.”  She added, “Princeton is a good team and they played well, I give them credit.  This was a good test for us, especially with a tough American team next up.  This served as a great chance for us to get ready for what we’re going to see this weekend.”

Lehigh returns to action on Sunday afternoon when the Mountain Hawks head to the nation’s capital for a huge Patriot League showdown with the No. No. 17 American Eagles.  Game time is set for 2:00.
