It took just over two minutes for American to take the lead as Denise Infante followed her own blocked shot after a penalty corner for her tenth goal of the season. The Eagles extended their lead in the 16th minute on Savannah Graybill’s eleventh goal of the year.
Junior Kara Zweizig put Lehigh on the scoreboard at the 16:03 mark when she scored her seventh goal of the season on a scramble in front of the goal cage. Sophomore Kelly Fox netted her team-leading eighth assist on the play.
American added two more goals before the half, from Irene Schickhardt and Kristin Gebhart and led 4-1 at the break. Maggie Hall and Emily Stovicek added second half goals for the Eagles, with Infante assisting on each of American’s last four goals to finish with six points on the day.
The Eagles out shot Lehigh 18-8 on the afternoon and held an 11-7 edge in penalty corners. Freshman Jessica Miller made four saves for Lehigh before giving way to classmate Lilia Stefaniwsky, who played the final seven minutes. Alyssa Poorman stopped two shots for American.
With one league game remaining for all teams, Lehigh is tied with Colgate, Lafayette and Holy Cross at 2-2 in the league. Three of those teams will join American in the Patriot League tournament; November 2-3 in
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Wednesday when they host Drexel in their final non-league game of the regular season. Game time is set for 7 p.m. from the Ulrich Sports Complex and the game will be broadcast online at Lehighsports.com with streaming powered by Yahoo! Sports.
