BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Amanda Kicera scored a pair of second half goals, as Drexel broke a 1-1 halftime tie and went on to defeat Lehigh 4-1 on a chilly, rainy Wednesday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Sophomore Kelly Fox scored her fifth goal of the season for Lehigh, but it was not enough as the Mountain Hawks drop their final non-league game of the regular season and fall to 7-9 overall. Drexel improves to 10-7 with the victory.

The Dragons scored first at the 11:07 mark as Emily Horvat redirected Kicera’s shot off a penalty corner for her fifth goal of the season.

Lehigh created the tying goal off a corner opportunity late in the first half. After several chances in front of the goal cage, Fox slipped the ball inside the right post for the equalizer. Sophomore Lindsey Smith assisted on the play.

Kicera gave the Dragons the lead almost eight minutes into the second half, when she scored her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Jordan Freese. She netted her second goal six minutes later, with a perfectly placed deflection over the shoulder Lehigh goalkeeper Jessica Miller on a shot from a wide open Jennifer Bolger following a restart. Drexel added a goal in the 63rd minute as Jen Cairone scored on a centering feed from Casey Mouser.

“The effort was there, but we simply had too many unforced errors,” said Lehigh head coach Julie Mazer. “Offensively, we had plenty of opportunities, and put ourselves in position to score, but were unable to capitalize on our chances.”

Each team fired 11 shots on the night, while Drexel held a slight 11-7 advantage in penalty corners. Miller made 10 saves on the night for Lehigh, while Drexel’s Colleen McAndrew made five saves.

The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Saturday when they wrap up the regular season at home against Colgate. Lehigh can clinch a berth in the Patriot League tournament with a win over the Raiders. Game time is set for 11:30 a.m. from the Ulrich Sports Complex.
