“Anytime you score four goals in a Patriot League game, it is a good thing,” said head coach Dean Koski. “Goals do not come easy in the Patriot League.”
Koski continues, “The offense did a real good job in handling the ball and finding the back of the net. The defense had their hands full with Holy Cross, particularly with Trott.”
Junior Joe Clemente gave Lehigh a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute when a Holy Cross defender stopped the ball at the top of the box. Clemente gathered the ball and ripped into the net for his first goal of the season.
Freshman Kyle Evans gave the Mountain Hawks a 2-0 lead in the 50th minute. However, Holy Cross got on the scoreboard 64th minute off a rocket shot from Josh Trott 25 yards out. Trott’s goal halted the Mountain Hawks home shutout streak at 424 minutes.
Lehigh scored two goals in the last part of the second half to seal the victory. Sophomore Jim Taranto got his third goal of the season when he dribbled around the Holy Cross defense and goalkeeper Keith Bauer. Junior Patrick Starsinic got his first of the season when his shot from a near-impossible angle found the top right corner.
“If we can get through playing the Patriot League games with averaging less than one goal allowed per game, then we’ve done a good job,” said Koski. “We are playing to win. I can live with giving up one goal if we scored four.”
Jim Morahan recorded two saves as Lehigh outshot Holy Cross 14-10 and held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Saturday, September 30 when they host the American Eagles. Game time is set for 7:00 pm with audio and video coverage online at lehighsports.com with streaming provided by Yahoo! Sports.
