Lehigh holds annual Convocation Program

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh held its annual Convocation Program on Monday morning at Grace Hall to look back on the accomplishments of the past year for both team and individual performances. Senior wrestling standout Travis Frick was honored as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the most prestigious award given by the athletics department. On the mat, Frick was a two-time All-American and two-time EIWA Champion who earned his degree in industrial and systems engineering in May 2005 with a cumulative GPA of 3.25.
Working towards a master’s degree in management science, Frick earned a 3.60 grade point average in his first semester of grad school, and also succeeded with a 27-8 record in his final season for the Brown and White on the mat. Frick is a two-time Academic All-American and placed sixth at this season’s NCAA Championships.
Other award winners included senior wrestler Troy Letters and senior softball player Mary Wieder. Letters, who was named the Graduating Male Athlete of the Year, became the 20th wrestler in school history to win an individual national championship and was a three-time EIWA Champion and three-time All-American.
Wieder was named the Graduating Female Athlete of the Year, and is a three-time All-League selection and was the 2004 Patriot League Tournament MVP. Wieder is a career .321 hitter who is among the school all-time leaders in home runs, RBI and hits, and currently leads the Patriot League in both RBI and total bases.
The women’s soccer team also received recognition for leading the nation in both goals against average and shots on goal save percentage, while freshman Julie Kafka was honored for leading the country in shots on goal save percentage.
