PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Lehigh ran its winning streak to three with a doubleheader sweep over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Wednesday afternoon.  The Mountain Hawks won the opener by an 8-3 score, and then rolled to an 11-4 win in a six-inning nightcap.  The pair of wins gives Lehigh a 3-1 record in 2006; UMES falls to 2-8 with the pair of setbacks.

In the first game, Lehigh rallied for an early 1-0 deficit to forge ahead with a pair of RBI doubles from catcher Matt McBride and third baseman Matt Geiger.  Lehigh added three more in the fifth inning to go ahead for good.

In all, the Mountain Hawks ripped nine hits in the opener, including three from right fielder Nick Bet.  Bet scored three runs in the win.

Joe Raniszewski and Joel Hockman pitched four solid innings apiece.  Raniszewski recorded six strikeouts, and Hockman did not allow a run.  Newcomer Geoff Campbell pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the game.

The Mountain Hawks’ bats were ablaze once again in the second game, putting eleven runs on the board in six at-bats.  Lehigh scored five times in the top of the first, ripping four hits.  Bet once again led the attack, collecting three hits in four at-bats, including his first home run.  Bet drove in three and scored three, and Geiger added three RBIs in the win as well.

Left-hander Jed Davitt (1-0) pitched four scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.

Lehigh returns to action on Saturday, when the Mountain Hawks take on Sacred Heart in Clearwater, Fla.  First pitch is set for 3:00 pm.
