Lehigh came out strong from the start, racing out to a 13-3 lead in the first 3:30 of the contest. The Mountain Hawks were able to maintain their lead for the majority of the opening half, until the Hurricanes surged ahead for the first time on a three by McClinton with 2:43 to go in the half. A last second three by Asbury made the score 36-33 in favor of the Hurricanes heading into halftime.
Both teams shot well in the first 20 minutes, as Lehigh connected on 54 percent from the field, led by a balanced scoring attack. Every Lehigh player that saw the floor in the half scored, including Mgebroff with six, Neptune and Hall with five each and Phil Anderson, Olivero and Zahir Carrington with four apiece.
