In doubles play, Bucknell jumped in front in a hurry as Nada Curic and Veronica Brown blanked Alexis Jacobi and Starr Foster 8-0 at first doubles, then Daniella Shtemberg and Rheanna Gaskin beat Lehigh’s Lindsay Long and Ashley Donohue 8-6 at third doubles to earn the first point of the match.
In singles action the Bison picked up three straight set victories at first, fourth and sixth singles to clinch the victory. Jacobi earned Lehigh’s only point with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Shtemberg at third singles. Because Bucknell had already reached four points, matches at second singles featuring Maria Anorga and fifth singles with Lindsay Long were not completed.
Bucknell will take on Army in the Patriot League championship match Sunday at noon. Lehigh’s season is over at 10-9. The Mountain Hawks were 3-3 against Patriot League opponents, with two of those losses coming to the Bison. Lehigh loses only one senior, Anorga, who was 11-5 in singles matches and 9-6 in doubles contests in her final season.
