Smith leads Lehigh past Sacred Heart in Florida

Trailing by a 1-0 score in the bottom of the second inning, Smith led off the frame with a solo home run to left – his first blast of the season – to tie the score at 1-1. In the third, a John Zaszewski ground out plated Steve Salemme with the second run of the contest to give Lehigh a 2-1 advantage.
Sacred Heart rallied to tie take a 3-2 lead in the eighth, before the Mountain Hawks put together a four-run rally in the bottom of the inning to go on top for good at 6-3. The Pioneers added a run in the ninth, but came up short, 6-4.
Joe Matteo pitched well in his first start for Lehigh. He logged seven innings, allowing only two unearned runs. Matteo recorded eight strikeouts on the afternoon.
Joel Hockman worked the final two innings to earn his first win of the season.
Lehigh returns to the diamond on Wednesday, when the Mountain Hawks take on the IPFW Mastadons. Game time is set for 10:00 am from
