West Point, NY – Lehigh hung in tough all afternoon, but in the end fell to No. 15 Army 10-7 on Saturday afternoon.  The Mountain Hawks were done in by a four goal period by the Black Knights in the second quarter in a span of just over one minute, when the Brown and White could only muster one score, and went to the locker room trailing 7-3.  Junior captain Jeff King scored one goal, and added an assist and six groundballs for Lehigh, who falls back to .500 at 2-2, while Army picks up its first win of the season and now sits at 1-1.

King scored the game’s first goal at the 14:20 mark of the first quarter and Lehigh was sitting pretty.  The Black Knights would answer back with 9:40 remaining in the quarter with a score by Mike Obringer and the contest was tied at one.  Army then went in front 2-1 with a score by Jim Wagner at the 5:10 mark, but the Brown and White pulled even with just over two minutes remaining on a score by Blake Best, but the Black Knights would end the quarter with another goal by John Walker and the home team went to the first break up 3-2.

The second quarter was quiet for the first two-thirds, until the Black Knights broke the drought with a goal by Justin Bokmeyer, to put Army in front 4-2.  David Walsh answered for Lehigh, to draw the Mountain Hawks to within one at 4-3 wit 3:57 remaining, but Army then went on the offensive, scoring three goals in a span of 1:05, and Lehigh went into halftime trailing 7-3.

The third quarter was also quiet for the majority, until Andrew Lucas took a feed from King and found the back of the net at the 5:34 mark, and Lehgh was back to within three at 7-4.  A goal by Greg Morin off of an assist from David Gaunt brought the Mountain Hawks to within two at 7-5, which is how the two teams headed into the fourth quarter.

Morin opened the fourth period with his second goal at the 13:39 mark, and the Brown and White was in business, trailing by just one at 7-6.  Jim Wagner scored off of an assist from Mike Obringer to put Army back in front by two, and the Black Knights then increased their lead to three at 9-6 off of a power play score by Wagner, when Chris Larsen fed him for the score.  Lucas netted his second score of the game at the 4:28 mark to bring the Brown and White to within two, but Walker again scored and the Black Knights secured their first win in 2005.

Lucas finished with three groundballs and two goals, while Tom Weiss scooped up four groundballs on the afternoon.  Lehigh was nine of 12 in face-offs, and scooped up 34 groundballs as a team.  In goal for the Mountain Hawks, Eric Spirko sent back 13 shots on the afternoon, as his record fell to 2-2 in 2005.

Lehigh returns to action on Tuesday evening when the Mountain Hawks travel to Ft. Lauderdale, FL, to take on St. Joseph’s.  Game-time is scheduled for 7:00.
