Eastern Kentucky jumps on Lehigh staff in 12-2 rout

3/9/2004 12:00:00 AM | Baseball

Bradenton, FL – Lehigh fell into a six-nothing hole in the first inning and could never recover as Eastern Kentucky handed the Mountain Hawks their second straight setback – a 12-2 defeat – at the Baseball Academy on Tuesday afternoon.  Lehigh’s record now stands at 8-5 on the season, and 2-2 on its spring break trip.  The Colonels are now 6-1 in 2004.

It didn’t take the Colonels long to build a sizeable advantage, as they scored six times in the first off Lehigh starter Joe Raniszewski (1-1).  Lehigh went to its bullpen in the second inning, but the EKU offense continued to find success.  The Colonels exploded for a 10-0 lead before Lehigh could scratch the scoreboard.  All in all, Eastern Kentucky scored 12 times on 17 hits.

Offensively for the Mountain Hawks, outfielders David Moscow and Andrew Smith scored the lone Lehigh runs on the day.  Senior Eric Hoffman plated a run with his fifth inning single.

The Mountain Hawks return to the diamond on Wednesday, as their Florida trip continues.  Lehigh will take on Rhode Island, with first pitch scheduled for 10:30 am.  The game will be played at Manatee Community College.
