Bradenton, FL – Lehigh dropped its third straight contest on Wednesday, as the Mountain Hawks fell to Rhode Island by a score of 12-11 in a slugfest at Manatee Community College.  The loss drops Lehigh to 8-6 on the season, while the Rams improve their record to 3-7-1 on the season.

Matt Nusinov got his first start of the season, and he kept his team in the game through the first five innings.

The Mountain Hawks’ bats woke up from their recent slumber, knocking out 11 hits and pushing 11 runs across the board.  Steve Salemme had a particularly strong day, hitting a home run and knocking in four runs.  Andrew Smith collected two hits and drove in two runs as well.  Matt McBride scored twice, and was 3-for-5 at the plate.

In the end, however, the offensive explosion wasn’t enough as the Rams pounded out 20 hits of their own in the win.

Lehigh returns to action on Thursday, March 11 when the Mountain Hawks take on Northern Illinois at 10am from the Baseball Academy in Bradenton.
