Bradenton, FL – Northern Iowa plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning and Lehigh could never recover as the Mountain Hawks fell by a score of 10-5 at Manatee Community College on Friday night.  The win improves Northern Iowa to 2-5 on the season, while Lehigh returns home with a record of 9-7.  The Mountain Hawks were 3-4 on their seven game central Florida swing.

Trailing by four runs, the Mountain Hawks trimmed the deficit to 4-3 thanks to a three-run outburst in the top of the third.  However, Northern Iowa responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the inning to put the contest out of reach.

Eric Hoffman, John Zaszewski, Matt McBride, and Forrest Doane all collected two hits on the night for the Mountain Hawks.  Hoffman, McBride, and Doane all contributed doubles, and Doane drove in three runs.  Lehigh had nine hits on the night, but stranded ten runners on base.

Adam Marr (2-1) got the start on the mound, and was saddled with the loss.  Jack Muscalus struck out six in his four innings of relief, and Ryan Dodds pitched a scoreless eighth inning for Lehigh.

Lehigh returns to Bethlehem, and the Mountain Hawks will hit the diamond for their home opener on Thursday, March 20, when Lehigh hosts Haverford.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 from Goodman Field.
