Philadelphia, PA – Lehigh (2-1-0) picked up its first road win of the season Wednesday, traveling to Philadelphia and shutting out Temple 3-0. It was a sloppy game played in bad weather, but the Mountain Hawks overcame the poor conditions and the pesky Owls to emerge victorious for the second straight game.
Jocelyn Helwig led the offensive charge for Lehigh, netting her second goal in as many games, to give Lehigh the lead eleven minutes into the first half. Temple hung tough though and kept it close until late, when the Mountain Hawks struck again. Lauren Calabrese, one of five freshman starters for the Mountain Hawks, tallied her first career goal with ten minutes left to give the team some breathing room. Freshman Meghan Duesing later added her first goal of the season as well.
Coach Manny Oudin was happy with the result, but less happy with his team’s performance. "Anytime you can go on the road and win its great," said Oudin, "and we came away with no injuries as well, so we are happy about that. However, we never got a rhythm going today, and had a lot of opportunities we didn’t take advantage of. We have to get more consistent."
All-League goalkeeper Erin Iwaskiewicz recorded her second straight shutout for the Mountain Hawks, who return to action on Sunday, September 7, traveling to Hamden, CT, to take on Quinnipiac.
