Lehigh falls to St. Joe's

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh hung around for one half, but cold shooting eventually caught up as St. Joe’s defeated the Mountain Hawks by a score of 62-48 on Saturday evening from Stabler Arena. Lehigh struggled from the field all night long, as the brown and white only hit 21 percent of their shots in the first half and 22 percent for the game. Sophomore point guard Dawn Gorynski led Lehigh with 16 points on offense, including two three pointers. With the loss, Lehigh falls to 1-5 on the season, while the Hawks improve their record to 3-1.
The first half was a seesaw battle, with neither team able to pull away from the other. St. Joe’s hit 40 percent of its shots, led by Ayahna Cornish with ten points on five of seven shooting. The biggest lead of the opening stanza was six points, which St. Joe’s had at 30-24, when the two teams went into the locker rooms at halftime. Junior Jessica DePalo put in four points in the first half, as did Gorynski.
The second half was a different story for Lehigh, as the Mountain Hawks were only able to hit 22 percent of their shots. Lehigh continued to take good shots throughout the game, staying within the offense, but the shots just were not falling. St. Joe’s pushed its lead up to 27 at one point, as the Hawks connected on six three-pointers, many of which came at critical times to stop a Lehigh offensive push. St. Joe’s was led in scoring by Cornish, as she netted 17 points on the evening, and Irina Krasnoshiok, who put in 13 points, including one shot from behind the arc, as the center showed impressive range.
Lehigh returns to action on Monday when the Mountain Hawks host Columbia at Stabler Arena. Tip-off is set for 7:00, with all of the action live on Lehigh’s website.
