Lehigh head women’s soccer coach Eric Lambinus announced the hiring of Amy Hough on Thursday (Feb. 17) as a new assistant coach. Hough comes from nearby La Salle University where she helped lead the Explorers to the Atlantic 10 Semifinals this past season. A former La Salle goalkeeper herself, Hough comes in with extensive coaching experience with the Explorers, the Philadelphia Independence (WPS) and various camps.
“I am very excited to join the Lehigh family,” said Hough. “I would like to thank Eric and everyone involved in the search process for their support and belief in my ability to be an asset to an already successful program.”
“I believe Amy is a perfect fit for Lehigh and will be an unbelievable addition to the coaching staff,” said Lambinus. “Throughout the entire search process, Amy has clearly demonstrated that her values and coaching philosophy align perfectly with Lehigh and the women's soccer program.”
Hough was a four-year letterwinner for La Salle during the 2005-08 seasons, highlighted by a Second Team All-Conference season in 2006. She was also named the team’s Rookie of the Year in 2005, while garnering the Coaches Award in ’08. Hough finished second on the school’s career and single-season goals against average lists.
Right after graduating, Hough transitioned into a position as assistant coach for the Explorers. She was heavily involved in the recruiting process, which included managing a database of over 800 prospective student-athletes, communicating with over 100 prospective student-athletes, organizing and documenting campus visits and more. Hough organized and conducted individual and team practices, working closely with the goalkeepers. She also executed alumni functions in conjunction with women’s soccer events.
Last season, Hough helped lead La Salle to a place it had only been once before – the Atlantic 10 Semifinals. The Explorers finished the season 11-9-2 and in sixth place in the A-10 before upsetting third-seeded Duquesne in the quarterfinals.
“It was a very difficult decision to leave my alma mater, but after getting to know Eric, his coaching philosophies, and the Lehigh community, it became clear to me and my family that this would be a great fit,” said Hough. “I'm looking forward to the challenges of this new position, while expanding my knowledge and love of the game.”
Hough has also served as Volunteer Assistant Coach for the Philadelphia Independence (WPS) since January, 2010. She has worked with and trained some of the top international and former collegiate players such as Karina Le Blanc, Heather Mitts, Lori Lindsay, Amy Rodriguez and Caroline Seger. While there, Hough analyzed games with match analysis software.
“Amy’s high level of energy, attention to details and excellent communication skills were very evident to everyone who met with her in the process and reinforced by my communications in the soccer community,” said Lambinus. “Those traits will serve her very well as she transitions into the role of first assistant with our program.”
Hough also has experience in various camps, including OneonOne Soccer (Lancaster, Pa.) where she trained goalkeepers and field players ranging from age eight to 21. She has also served as Co-Director of Goalkeeping Academy for the Explorer Girls Soccer Academy, while working as a Personal Goalkeeper Instructor since 2004.
“I know it was a difficult decision to leave her alma mater but it’s a great opportunity for her to continue learning and advance her coaching career,” said Lambinus. “I can't wait to introduce her to the team and start working together to prepare them to compete for another Patriot League Championship in 2011."
A 2009 graduate of La Salle, Hough graduated Maxima Cum Laude (University Honors) with a B.A. in Psychology. She is currently pursuing her M.B.A. with concentration in Accounting.
