Jeff Pflaumbaum served as the throws coach for the Lehigh Men’s and Women’s Track & Field teams for three seasons from 2013-16.
In 2015-16, Pflaumbaum coached Patriot League outdoor shot put champion and NCAA First Round qualifier Lucas Warning, who held the top four shot puts in the Patriot League throughout the outdoor season. Michaela Bubak (indoor weight throw) and Amanda Youngblood (outdoor discus) each earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors, along with Warning after is runner-up performance in the shot put at the league’s indoor championships. In addition, senior Gabrielle Wardle won a league championship and qualified for the NCAA First Round in the javelin.
A 1998 graduate of North Carolina State, Pflaumbaum spent four years as an assistant coach at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, Mass. and three as the head cross-country coach at Gann Academy in Waltham, Mass. In 11 seasons, Pflaumbaum coached on nine conference championship teams, two of which he served as the head coach. He also coached 11 conference champions, 28 state qualifiers, and back-to-back State Championships in the discus relay (2010, 2011). Pflaumbaum was also instrumental in developing the weight throw as a high school event in the state of Massachusetts. Several of his throwers went on to compete at the collegiate level including multiple-time All-American Sean Enos (Bates College).
In 2011, Pflaumbaum became the throws coach at Temple University. While working within the throws and multi-events, his athletes earned eight top-three conference performances at the A-10 Championships and eight ECAC/IC4A qualifying marks. This included three A-10 conference championships by then freshman, Margo Britton. Britton went on to qualify for NCAA Nationals and Junior Nationals in both the shot put and discus. She broke three of Temple’s school records in her freshman campaign. Britton was also named 2012 A-10 Rookie of the Year.
Coach Pflaumbaum moved to Swarthmore College the following year to serve as the team’s strength coach as well as work with the throwers and multi-events athletes. At Swarthmore his athletes earned three top-three performances at the Centennial Conference Championship, three ECAC qualifying marks, and broke four school records. Sophomore Osazenoriuwa Ebose won the discus at the Centennial Conference; a first for Swarthmore College.
As a thrower at NC State, Pflaumbaum was All-ACC in the discus and an NCAA qualifier in the 35 lb weight throw. He is also a 4x sub-masters All-American in the shot put. He holds a B.A. in Religion with a Classical Greek minor from N.C. State and a B.M. in Contemporary Writing from The Berklee College of Music.
Pflaumbaum holds a USTF Level 1 certification.
