Head coach Kelsi Lykens announced her first hire since taking the reins of the field hockey program, naming Emily Spangler as her assistant coach for the upcoming season.

Spangler comes to Lehigh from Misericordia University in Dallas, Pa., where she was a graduate assistant for the field hockey team. She was tasked with creating practice plans, running individual practice sessions, creating scouting reports and heading film sessions using TeamXStream. The graduate assistant was also in charge of recruiting, creating graphics and running the team’s social media accounts.

Prior to her arrival at Misericordia, Spangler was a club coach at the NEPA Force Field Hockey Club in Scranton, Pa., while also being a Team Camp coach at East Stroudsburg University. Her wealth of coaching experience began in 2020 when she began coaching indoor field hockey at the PA Revolution Field Hockey Club.

In 2022 and 2023, she was a technical official for the Junior Premier Outdoor League (JPOL) in Hummelstown, Pa.Â

Outside of the athletics sphere, Spangler was a Finance Associate at Armstrong World Industries from 2020 to 2021 in Lancaster, Pa.Â

As a student-athlete, Spangler was a second team NFHCA All-American and a two-time All-Conference selection at East Stroudsburg. A former team captain, she was selected to the Division II Senior All-Star game in 2019. Academically, Spangler was a four-time member of NFHCA National Academic Squad and was named a NFHCA Division II Scholar of Distinction.

A native of Gettysburg, Pa., she graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree from East Stroudsburg in 2020 and is currently earning a Masters of Business Administration, Sport Management from Misericordia.Â
