GREEN TAILGATING TIPS

Lehigh University Athletics promotes and supports sustainability efforts by the University and the Lehigh Valley Community (see photo in gallery below - #3 of 4). The following are tips on what you can do to be “Green:"

  • Know what is recyclable: glass and plastic bottles, aluminum cans. Please see the signs located throughout the parking lots.
  • Black trash bags and clear recycling bags sign dispensers are located around the parking lots for your convenience.
  • Place recyclables and non-recyclable trash in the proper bins and do not commingle. Blue bins are for recycling and Black bins are for trash.
  • Bring a reusable water bottle for tailgating. Ditch the disposable and pick up some reusable cups. The same is true for utensils, plates, and decorations. Buy tailgating supplies with recycled content, and in bulk.
  • Buy local food: decrease food miles helps your meal’s carbon footprint and support the local economy.
  • When you do your tailgate shopping, bring your own reusable bags. They’re easier to carry and create less trash!
  • Carpool to your tailgate spot, and encourage others to come celebrate another Mountain Hawks win with you.
  • Grill naturally. Barbecuing or grilling with natural products (chemical free charcoal) is more sustainable and better for the food.
