BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's soccer welcomed back two championship teams to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Saturday to celebrate the anniversaries of their Patriot League titles. The 2000 Patriot League Champion team and the 2015 Patriot League Champion team were honored at halftime of Lehigh's 2-1 victory over Loyola Maryland.
The 2000 Lehigh men's soccer team, led by head coach Dean Koski, won Lehigh's first-ever Patriot League Tournament Championship. The Mountain Hawks capped a 12-5-3 season with a dramatic 5-3 penalty shootout victory over arch-rival Lafayette in the championship game. Dan Perciballi earned the Tournament MVP honors.
Fifteen years later, Coach Koski led another incredible squad to the Patriot League title. Lehigh finished with an impressive 13-6-3 record, one of only four times the program has achieved 13 or more wins in a season. After starting Patriot League play slowly, the team went undefeated in its last five regular season games. The Mountain Hawks defeated American with a hard-fought 2-1 victory in the final. Senior Jamie Luchini scored both goals in the championship match and was deservedly named the Tournament MVP. Lehigh advanced to the NCAA tournament, which was the fourth time in program history and first since 2006. The 2015 team also saw Luchini become the first Lehigh men's soccer player to be a CoSIDA Academic All-American and NSCAA Scholar-All-American, while four players earned All-Patriot League honors and three received All-Region selections.
"It was very special for me to welcome home our 2000 and 2015 Patriot League championship teams," said Coach Koski. "It was wonderful to reconnect with all the players and hear about their lives after graduating. It was great to see additional alumni join the champions representing different decades. The legacy of both of these championship teams remains present in my heart, even 25 and 10 years later."
