Lehigh-Lafayette Outdoor Dual Meet Set For Saturday In Easton

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – It's Rivalry week for the Lehigh track and field teams with the Mountain Hawks headed to Easton on Saturday for the annual outdoor dual meet with Lafayette. The Mountain Hawks swept the Leopards in both cross country and indoor track and field and will look to go 6-0 against their rivals in cross country/track and field for the fourth consecutive season.
Field events will begin at 11:30 a.m. from the track and field facility at Lafayette's Metzgar Fields Complex with the men's pole vault and women's hammer throw. Track events get underway at 12:45 p.m. with the men's 3000m steeplechase, with the women's 4x400m relay closing out the day at approximately 3:40 p.m.
This will be the third weekend of full squad competition in outdoor track and field. Last weekend the Mountain Hawks competed at the Monmouth Season Opener in West Long Branch, N.J. The meet produced six new all-time top 10 additions.
Senior Skyler Mott was named Patriot League Men's Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after finishing second in the high jump. Mott's 2.06m mark is tops in the Patriot League so far this season and tied his seventh all-time mark for Lehigh. First-year Jaden Ferguson moved into 10th place all-time in the long jump with a leap of 6.96m. Senior Patrez Thomas delivered an event victory, taking the 400m hurdles in 53.70.
On the women's side, junior Grace Aggen moved into fifth place all-time in the shot put with a throw of 13.63m. Junior Grace Nation moved into ninth all-time in the triple jump with a mark of 11.51m. First-year sprinter Jade Sanders finished third and moved into fifth place all-time in the 400m, running 57.07. In the 400m hurdles, first-year Lanae Carrington moved into eighth all-time with a time of 1:03.31. Junior Grace Kennedy won the event with a time of 1:01.41.
The indoor meets were tightly contested with the Lehigh women winning 102-79 and the men prevailing 91-89.
The Mountain Hawks won 10 events on the women's side. Aggen claimed the shot put while sophomore Avery Dowkus took the weight throw. Nation won the triple jump with seniors Izabel Fronc (high jump) and Lillian Mauger (long jump) also winning jumps events. Sophomore Hope Trimmer was tops in the mile and junior Abby Klebe won the 1000m. Senior Shelby Dejana finished first in the 60m hurdles and Kennedy won the 400m. Lehigh closed the meet with a win in the 4x800m relay.
The Lehigh men won seven events, with senior Liam Lovering claiming the shot put and the weight throw. The Mountain Hawks swept the high jump, long jump and triple jump, with victories from Mott, Ferguson and junior Daniel Givens (triple jump). Thomas won the indoor 200m race and senior Aidan Lynch took the mile.
Last year, the women won 111-89 in the outdoor meet. Among returning athletes, Kennedy (400m hurdles), Dowkus (shot put), Fronc (high jump), Laura Reigle (pole vault), Casey Talamini-Kelemen (triple jump), Mauger (long jump) won their events in the dual meet. Lehigh also swept the Mid-Distance/Distance events, with Klebe (800m), Lucy Afanasewicz (1500m) and Savanah Beavers (5000m) returning.
The men won last year's outdoor meet by the same 111-89 score. Returning event winners include Nathan Oliphant (110m hurdles), Thomas (400m hurdles), Wil Jaques (javelin), Lovering (discus), Mott (high jump), Andrew Clark (long jump), Givens (triple jump), Alex Heidemann (800m and 1500m) and Adam Barbato (3000m steeplechase).
Lehigh's women have won the last seven outdoor dual meets, while the men have won the last three.
