Lehigh Goes For Three In A Row On Saturday Vs. First Place American

2/7/2025 11:14:00 AM | Men's Basketball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball looks to make it three in a row on Saturday afternoon when the Mountain Hawks host the first-place American University Eagles, presented by The Marshall. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Stabler Arena.

Lehigh (9-13, 4-7 PL) leads the all-time series against American (14-10, 8-3) 34-29 and have had great success over the Eagles in recent years, winning seven of the last ten meetings. The Eagles won in miraculous fashion over the Mountain Hawks this season on January 22, as Lincoln Ball's floater as time expired gave American a 68-67 win.

If Lehigh wins, they would earn their third win in a row, tenth win of the season and improve to 5-7 in Patriot League play. Head coach Dr. Brett Reed's all-time record against American would improve to 24-14.

All eyes were on Stabler Arena on Monday evening as Lehigh men's basketball played host to the Colgate Raiders in front of a national audience on CBS Sports Network. The Mountain Hawks put on an offensive clinic, shooting 60% from the field on route to a 94-68 victory. Lehigh shot a remarkable 60.0% (36-60) from the floor and 55.6% (15-27) from three while Colgate posted percentages of 41.7% (25-60) and 36.7% (11-30). Lehigh's 15 three-pointers tied the school record for most three-point field goals made in a game, a feat the Mountain Hawks haven't reached since 2018. All 11 active players touched the floor for Lehigh while nine of them found the back of the net. Eight student-athletes scored six or more points while four of those players scored in double-figures.

The Eagles enter Saturday's contest sitting in first place in the Patriot League standings at 8-3 and 14-10 overall. American was on a seven-game winning streak prior to their 71-49 loss to Bucknell on Wednesday. Graduate student and Preseason Player of the Year Matt Rogers has been fantastic for the Eagles, averaging 16.5 points and 5.6 rebounds on 54.6% shooting and 43.0% from three. Three other Eagles average double-digit points, those being senior Elijah Stephens (11.0), Colin Smalls (10.6) and Greg Jones (10.5).

Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks will hit the road on Wednesday, February 12 for the second meeting of the season against the Navy Midshipmen.

Saturday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can be listened to on Fox Sports 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.
