BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball will face its second Big 12 opponent of the season on Sunday afternoon when the team travels to Morgantown, W.Va. to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers at 3 p.m.
Lehigh (1-1) has squared off against West Virginia (2-0) six times, having lost five and won once. Lehigh's lone win came in a 59-57 win in the 1962-63 season. The two teams last played in 2018, which resulted in a 78-68 win for the Mountaineers. The game was very competitive, as Lehigh held a lead in the second half and trailed by only three in the final minutes.
If Lehigh wins, they will earn their first win over a power conference opponent since defeating Mississippi State 87-73 in 2016.
The Mountain Hawks picked up their first win of the season in a 91-52 rout of the Valley Forge Patriots. Andrew Urosevic shined in his first game in front of the home crowd, posting a game-high 23 points on 9-13 shooting and 5-10 from three-point range. Nasir Whitlock put up 12 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists. Edouard Benoit scored 12 points himself while junior Joshua Ingram joined them in double-figures with 11. Caleb Thomas continued to impress in his second game in the brown and white, scoring six points while leading the Mountain Hawks with eight assists and five steals. Sophomore Hank Alvey dominated in only 13 minutes of action, registering eight points, seven rebounds and five blocks.
The Mountaineers enter their first season under the leadership of head coach Ross Hodge, their fourth head coach in as many seasons following the departure of longtime coach Bob Huggins in 2023. West Virginia posted a record of 19-13 last season under coach Darian DeVries, narrowly missing out on the NCAA Tournament. The lone returning player for the Mountaineers is Abraham Oyeadier, who redshirted as a true freshman. WVU's leading scorer through two games is Honor Huff at 19.5 ppg.
