Rooney Joins Lehigh Football Staff As Director of Operations

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head coach Kevin Cahill has announced the addition of John Rooney as the Mountain Hawks' Director of Football Operations.

In his role, Rooney will be responsible for handling all external tasks surrounding the football program. Hazlet will handle practice, game day and travel operations and will be a resource to the coaching staff to assist with any necessary tasks.

Rooney comes to Lehigh after spending the previous two seasons as the offensive line coach at Franklin & Marshall. In his first season at F&M Rooney worked with current Lehigh offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Dan Hunt on the offensive staff. Rooney's offensive line paved the way for running back Aaron Rascoe to set F&M's single-season rushing touchdown record with 14.

A Yonkers, N.Y. native, Rooney went to F&M following a standout playing career as an offensive lineman at Williams College. A three-year starter, Rooney earned first team All-NESCAC and All-Region honors at guard in his senior season. Williams enjoyed an undefeated season in 2021, with Rooney helping the Ephs' offense lead the NESCAC in scoring, rushing yards, rush yards per carry, total touchdowns and rushing touchdowns.

A team captain as a senior, Rooney graduated from Williams in 2022 with degrees in history and political economy.
