Hardy Closes out Patriot League Championship with Second Gold Medal

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Lehigh women's swimming and diving graduate student Sarah Hardy won her second gold medal in two days at the Patriot League Championships after taking home the win in the 200-yard butterfly with a school record time and an NCAA B-Cut time of 1:58.67 Saturday night at Lejeune Hall.

Saturday was also the final day of the Patriot League Championships, and Lehigh finished in fifth place with 850.50 points, which was just 12.50 points behind Bucknell, who finished in fourth. Lehigh also finished 38 points ahead of Loyola. Navy won the team title after scoring 1,397 points. 

Hardy now has two career goal medals after winning the 400-yard IM yesterday. Not only did Hardy win the gold medal, but it was Julia Stevens also landing on the podium in the 200-yard butterfly after swimming a personal best time of 1:59.59. Natalie Martin also picked up 24 points for Lehigh in the 200-yard butterfly with a sixth-place finish (2:00.06). 

Hardy scored 88 individual points at the Patriot League Championships, which was tied for fourth among individual scorers. 

Lehigh had three other A-Finalists on Saturday in addition to Hardy, Stevens and Martin. Willa Werwaiss was in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing sixth with a time of 1:58.96. Werwaiss scored a total of 76 points at Patriots, which ranked ninth in the league. She also landed on the podium three times, taking home two silver medals and a bronze. 

Caitlin Hofmann punched her ticket to her first career A-Final after breaking the school record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.34 in the prelims. Hofmann finished seventh in the A-Final, swimming a time of 2:19.50. 

Noel Fresa swam in an A-Final for the second time at Patriots as she swam in the 100-yard freestyle. Fresa ended in eighth-place with a time of 23.61

Eliza Meth and Kelsey Thompson also picked up points for Lehigh after qualifying for the C-Final in the 200-yard breaststroke. Thompson scored six points with a 19th place finish (2:24.20), and Meth scored four points after finishing in 21st (2:24.86). 

Although there were no finals for it, Mairin Ludwig swam the fourth-best time in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:01.03). 

The Mountain Hawks ended the Patriot League Championship with the 400-yard freestyle relay, where Fresa, Werwaiss, Ludwig and  and Caitlin Deitch swam to a sixth-place finish to score the final 48 points for Lehigh.
