Lehigh Looks To Sweep Season Series At Lafayette On Saturday
2/23/2024 11:17:00 AM | Men's Basketball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball went over the .500 mark in Patriot League play on Wednesday for the first time this season. The Mountain Hawks will now put their four-game winning streak to the test against rival Lafayette, who currently holds the second seed in the Patriot League.
Lehigh (11-15, 8-7 PL) trails Lafayette (11-17, 10-5 PL) in the all-time series between the two rivals 149-95. In their first meeting this season, the Mountain Hawks pulled off a 21-point comeback to defeat the Leopards 94-90 in double overtime. The win was the first game in the series since Lafayette's upset win over Lehigh in last year's Patriot League Quarterfinals.
If Lehigh wins, they will win their fifth consecutive game and sweep the season series against Lafayette. In addition, a win keeps the Mountain Hawks mathematically alive for the second seed in the Patriot League tournament.
Lehigh earned their fourth-consecutive victory by way of a dominant 85-54 showing against Army West Point on Wednesday. The Mountain Hawks never trailed in what was a wire-to-wire victory for Lehigh. Tyler Whitney-Sidney posted a game-high 22 points while Dominic Parolin tallied 18 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. It was the largest Patriot League victory for the Mountain Hawks since they defeated Bucknell 97-64 in January of 2022.
After finishing their non-league schedule with a record of 1-12, Lafayette rattled off seven wins in a row to begin Patriot League play. They currently sit in second place in the league and have an opportunity to clinch that seed with a win and loss from American this weekend. The Leopards employ a rounded offensive attack that lacks a true number one option, as four players average between 8.9 and 9.8 points per game. Leading the charge is junior Devin Hines at 9.8 points per game followed closely by junior Justin Vander Baan at 9.2.
Saturday's game will be aired on ESPN+ and can be listened to on Fox Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.
