12/3/2024 4:25:00 PM | Men's Basketball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball returns to Stabler Arena after moving to 2-0 in the building this season on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks will face the Monmouth Hawks at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
Lehigh (2-5) and Monmouth (1-8) have been common opponents for one another over the past several years. The Mountain Hawks and Hawks have squared off consecutively every season since 2017 with the exception of the shortened 2020-21 season. Monmouth got the best of Lehigh last season, winning 88-79 on their home court. Lehigh leads the all-time series 7-6, but the teams have split their last ten matchups 5-5.
If Lehigh wins, they would earn their second consecutive and third overall win on the season. Head coach Dr. Brett Reed's record against Monmouth would improve to 6-5.
The Mountain Hawks most recently defeated Marist 74-69 on Saturday evening, picking up their first Division-I win of the season. Bube Momah led the way with 15 points while Cam Gillus and Keith Higgins Jr. tallied 14 and 12 points respectively. Gillus reached double-digits for the second consecutive game and third time overall on the season in Saturday's win. Higgins also hauled in a game-high 11 rebounds in what was his second career double-double.
Monmouth enters Wednesday's game fresh off the heels of an upset over the Seton Hall Pirates on Saturday. The win was also Monmouth's first of the 2024-25 campaign. Head coach King Rice is in his 14th season at the helm of the program. The Hawks went 18-15 last season, falling to Charleston in the CAA quarterfinals. Monmouth's leading scorer is sophomore Abdi Bashir Jr., who is averaging 20.4 points per game while shooting 100% from the free throw line. Bashir played his best game of the season last year against Lehigh, tallying 21 points on 5-6 shooting from downtown. Monmouth's other leading scorers include Madison Durr (9.7 ppg) and Jaret Valencia (9.2 ppg).
Following Wednesday night's game, the Mountain Hawks will travel to Ohio for a date with the Dayton Flyers on Saturday, December 7 at 2 p.m. The game will be a homecoming for senior guard Ben Knostman.
Wednesday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can be listened to on Fox Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.
