11/3/2024 5:09:00 PM | Men's Basketball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After months of preparation, the 2024-25 college basketball season is upon us. Lehigh men's basketball will kick off their campaign with four consecutive road games, starting with a date against the Northwestern Wildcats in Evanston, Illinois on November 4.

Lehigh's matchup with Northwestern will be the first of eleven non-league games for the Mountain Hawks prior to Patriot League play. Lehigh will also face Georgetown, UCLA and Dayton amongst others as part of their non-league schedule.

Lehigh and Northwestern have faced one another on two separate occasions, with the Wildcats leading the series 2-0. The first game took place on January 4, 1993 in Evanston, which resulted in an 81-66 victory for the Wildcats. The most recent matchup was Lehigh's season-opener on November 13, 2005, which was a narrow 61-59 loss.

The Mountain Hawks enter the 2024-25 season off the heels of their first Patriot League championship game appearance since 2017. Lehigh returns five players who started in 15 or more games, including former All-Patriot League selections Tyler Whitney-Sidney and Keith Higgins Jr. Other returners who saw significant minutes in 2023-24 are sophomores Cam Gillus, Nasir Whitlock and Joshua Ingram, junior Bube Momah and senior Ben Knostman. Head coach Dr. Brett Reed is entering his 18th season at the helm of the Lehigh men's basketball program.

Northwestern enjoyed a successful season in the Big Ten, finishing with a 22-12 record and 12-8 mark in conference play. The Wildcats played very well at home, posting a 15-2 recored at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Northwestern was led by graduate student Boo Buie, who averaged a team-high 19.0 points per game, which ranked fourth in the Big Ten. The team returns senior Brooks Barnhizer, who ranked second on the team with 14.6 points per game and led the Wildcats with 7.5 rebounds per game. Head coach Chris Collins enters his 12th season at the helm of the program, having helped Northwestern reach their only three NCAA Tournament appearances in program history.

Northwestern will be the first of two Big Ten opponents that Lehigh will face this season, as the Mountain Hawks are slated to travel west to take on UCLA on November 15. Last season, Lehigh took on cross-state Big Ten foe Penn State.

Monday's game will be streamed exclusively on Peacock.
