Lehigh Returns To Goodman Stadium Saturday To Host Fordham On Pride Day

10/22/2024 1:36:00 PM | Football

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – It's back to Goodman Stadium and back to Patriot League play for the Lehigh football team as the Mountain Hawks welcome the Fordham Rams Saturday on Pride Day, presented by Lehigh's Pride Center and Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity. Both teams are looking for their first Patriot League victory of 2024. Lehigh comes in dropping two straight games after a three-game winning streak. The Mountain Hawks have had back-to-back 200-plus yard rushing games but have turned the ball over seven times in their last two outings. Lehigh rushed for 250 yards in its 38-23 setback at Yale last weekend. Fordham comes off its bye week looking to snap a nine-game losing streak dating back to last season. The Rams dropped league games to Lafayette and Holy Cross prior to their bye last week.

Lehigh has now eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark in 13 straight games dating back to last season. The Mountain Hawks' 202 rushing yards against Bucknell were their most since gaining 260 on the ground against Fordham in 2021. Last week's 250 yard rushing effort at Yale gave Lehigh back-to-back 200-yard rushing games for the first time since 2017, when the Mountain Hawks had three straight games over 200 yards. That year, Lehigh rushed for 212 at Colgate, 244 against Georgetown and then 306 at Fordham.

Through six games, the statistics show that when the Mountain Hawks take care of the football, they have success. In three victories this season, Lehigh is plus-6 in turnover margin with eight takeaways and just two giveaways. In three losses, the Mountain Hawks are minus-7 with just two takeaways and nine turnovers.

Lehigh returns to Goodman Stadium where the Mountain Hawks have enjoyed success getting to opposing quarterbacks. In three home games, Lehigh has 13 sacks: two against Wagner, six against Princeton and five versus Bucknell. The Mountain Hawks have been held without a sack in all three road games so far in 2024.

The relationship between Lehigh head coach Kevin Cahill and Fordham head coach Joe Conlin goes back a decade. Cahill and Conlin coached together on Tony Reno's offensive staff at Yale from 2013-2017. The last four of those seasons, Cahill was the Bulldogs' assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach, while Conlin was associate head coach and offensive coordinator. When Conlin was named Fordham's head coach in December 2017, Cahill assumed Conlin's associate head coach and offensive coordinator positions, which he held until getting the Lehigh job in December 2022.

Coming off of its bye week, Fordham enters Saturday's game looking for its first win in 2024.  The Rams are 0-7 overall and 0-2 in Patriot League play, with their two league losses coming by a combined eight points against predicted league front-runners Lafayette and Holy Cross. Quarterback CJ Montes has not played since week three against Stony Brook with Jack Capaldi leading the offense in Montes' absence. The Rams' offense is led by running back Julius Loughridge, who has 566 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Defensive lineman Matt Jaworski was the Patriot League's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and standout linebacker James Conway returned to action at the start of league play after missing Fordham's first five games.

Lehigh has played Fordham 35 previous times with the Mountain Hawks winning 25 of those meetings. Fordham has won eight of the last 10 meetings, including three straight, after winning just two of the first 25 games in the series.

Saturday's game kicks off just after noon from Goodman Stadium. Tickets can be purchased at LehighTickets.com or by calling 610-758-4263 during business hours.

Lehigh will play its next two games on the road, beginning with a visit to Georgetown next Saturday. The Mountain Hawks head to Cooper Field looking to avenge a home loss to the Hoyas last season. Game time is set for 12:30 p.m.
