Lehigh To Host Navy For Salute To Service Night

1/30/2024 5:14:00 PM | Men's Basketball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh returns to Stabler Arena following their 78-72 win at Holy Cross on Saturday to host Navy for Salute to Service Night. Any active or retired military member, first responder, or healthcare worker can claim a complimentary ticket for the game and the national anthem will be performed by electric guitarist Thomas Amoriello.

The Midshipmen (8-11, 4-4 PL) hold a 55-35 all-time record over the Mountain Hawks (6-13, 3-5 PL), with the first matchup between the two schools coming in 1911. Navy picked up a win in their last game against Lehigh earlier this season, narrowly defeating the Mountain Hawks by a score of 71-69. The Midshipmen have had success against the Mountain Hawks in recent seasons, holding a 6-4 record over Lehigh in the last ten meetings.

If Lehigh wins, they would tie the season series at one apiece and will win consecutive games for the first time this season.

Lehigh defeated Holy Cross in their last time out, evening the season series and pushing the Mountain Hawks into the sixth seed in the league in the process. The Mountain Hawks have been playing shorthanded due to various injuries, and others have needed to step up. First-years Cam Gillus and Joshua Ingram have provided quality minutes in the starting lineup over the past three games for Lehigh while senior Burke Chebuhar dominated with a 20-point and 10-rebound performance against the Crusaders. Tyler Whitney-Sidney has also stepped up both on the court and as a leader, scoring 19 in the win over Holy Cross while being a positive voice in the locker room for his team.

Navy enters Wednesday's matchup with an 8-11 overall record and 4-4 mark in Patriot League play. The Mids are currently riding a two-game losing streak, dropping a 74-70 decision to the Loyola Greyhounds on Saturday in their last time out and a 71-63 decision to Bucknell on January 24. Sophomore Austin Benigni has been on fire this season, averaging 16.2 points per game, which is good enough for second-highest in the Patriot League. Sophomore Donovan Draper has been a force on the defensive end for Navy, averaging a league-best 9.4 rebounds per game and 2.4 steals per game. The Midshipmen sit one spot ahead of Lehigh in the Patriot League standings in fifth.

Wednesday's game will be aired on ESPN+ and can be listened to on Fox Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.
