Mountain Hawks Prepare For Gold 6k Race At 49th Annual Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the 49th consecutive year, Lehigh University is set to host the Paul Short Run presented by ASICS, Saturday at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. Lehigh women's cross country looks to continue their success following the team's 18th consecutive rivalry win over Lafayette in the team's most recent competition.
On September 16, the Mountain Hawks traveled to Easton for their annual dual meet race against the Leopards, coming away with an 18-43 win. Lehigh finished seven runners in the top ten to help them secure the victory.
Finishing first for Lehigh and first overall in the race was senior Lindsay MacLellan, who clocked in with a time of 21:56.10. MacLellan's win marked the first of her career and helped her earn the Patriot League Runner of the Week.
Junior Maddison Hayes finished in second place at 22:06.51 while senior Christina Yakaboski (22:18.79) and junior Savanah Beavers (22:23.91) rounded out the top five at fourth and fifth place. Sophomore Lucy Afanasewicz (sixth, 22:25.36), senior Grace Kolbe (eighth, 23:21.92) and senior Abigail Tenreiro (ninth, 23:30.37) were Lehigh's final runners within the top ten.
Last year, Lehigh placed 38th in a pool of 46 teams in the women's Gold 6k race. The top finishers for the Mountain Hawks were Christina Yakaboski, Lucy Afanasewicz and Madison Zaun.
The 2023 Lehigh Paul Short Run begins with the Open men's 8k race at 9:30 a.m. while Lehigh is set to compete in the women's Gold 6k race at 11:45 a.m.
