Lehigh’s 4x800 Squad Breaks School Record as Mountain Hawks Capture 4th-Place Finish at 2023 IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

FAIRFAX, Va. — The Lehigh men's track and field team had six medals and broke a school record in the 4x800m relay as the Mountain Hawks finished 4th of 38 teams at the 2023 IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by George Mason University.
Two Patriot League schools sat atop of the leader board after day one, with Army West Point (82) and Navy (80.5) first and second as the host, George Mason was in third with 40.5 points. The Mountain Hawks were in fourth with 27 points and Penn rounded out the top five with 25.5 points.
Navy ran away as the team champions with 154.5 points while the Black Knights finished second with 89 points and host George Mason placed third with 70.5 points. The Mountain Hawks finished in fourth with 47 points and just two point ahead of Coppin State with 45 points to round out the top five scoring teams
Relays
Lehigh's 4x800m relay squad, consisting of Joseph Cranley, Aidan Lynch, Jacob Martinez and Kerem Ayhan broke the school record and earned bronze medals with their third place finish, doing so in a time of 7:25.14 for six points.
Distance/Mid-Distance
Kerem Ayhan competed in the 800m race and claimed bronze with a PR time of 1:49.35 and six points for 2nd all-time in the program's history while Kevin Harvey, who captured gold at the Patriot League Championships a week ago, also finished third with a personal best time of 14:17.12, ranking him eighth all-time.
Both Tyler French and Adam Barbato ran in the 3,000m steeplechase, with French finishing seventh in a personal best time of 9:08.60 for two points. Barbato ran a time of 9:19.14 and finished 12th.
Aidan Lynch and Jacob Martinez were neck-and-neck during the 1,500m race and both finishing 17th and 18th respectively, with Lynch crossing in a time of 3:51.88 while Martinez finished in 3:51.90. Daniel Malatesta also ran in the 1,500m race and ended in 22nd with a mark of 3:52.60
Jumps.
Ian Scott, coming off wiining the gold medal in the triple jump at the Patriot League Championships, finished third in that event for six points with a distance of 14.63m. Scott also reached a distance of 6.31m in the long jump while Skyler Mott earned the Mountain Hawks a point after finishing eighth in the high jump after clearing 1.99m
Throws
Three members of Lehigh, Hunter Rodarmel, Greg Stagliano and Wil Jaques competed in the javelin and totaled eight points. Rodarmel finished third with a distance of 57.55m while Stagliano placed seventh with a mark of 55.02m and Jaques reached 50.86m.
Alex Clevenger recorded a fifth-place finish in the shot put after reaching a PR distance of 15.89m and then placed 21st in the discus with a mark of 39.94m. Jaques was one place behind in the discus, placing 22nd with a distance of 37.21m.
Sprints
Patrez Thomas took home a silver medal in the 400m hurdles for eight points with a time of 52.42 seconds while Dan Stipanov finished 12th in the 110m hurdles prelims with a time of 15.17 seconds.
John Siani ran in the100m qualifier and finished 14th with a time of 11.37 seconds and Amondo Lemmon was the lone Mountain Hawk to run in the 400m dash and finished 18th with a time of 48.67 seconds.
After the conclusion of this weekend's 2023 IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship, Lehigh will wait and see if anyone qualifies for the NCAA East Preliminaries, which will take place May 24-27.
