Lovering and Scott Conclude Outdoor Season at the East First Round of the NCAA Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sophomore Liam Lovering and senior Ian Scott of the Lehigh men's track and field program made their NCAA Championship debuts in the First Round of the East Regional at the 2023 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of North Florida on Thursday evening.

Lovering threw in the first heat of three in the discus throw that began at 1 p.m. He fouled on his first and third attempts but landed a mark of 48.53m, which placed him in 45th of the 48 participants.
 
Lovering made his first appearance at the NCAA Championship in the discus throw after taking home a silver medal and being named to the Second Team All-Patriot League with a mark of 52.39m. Lovering was ranked 43rd in the east region heading into the meet, with his qualifying mark of 54.08m that he recorded at the Carol and John Covert Classic on April 28.
 
Scott competed in the triple jump that started at 6 p.m. and was in the second heat of four. He recorded a distance of 14.00m in his first attempt before fouling in his second and third tries, placing 45th of the 48 competitors in the event.
 
Scott, the 2023 Patriot League Triple Jump Champion, also made his first appearance at the NCAA championship meet, after reaching a distance of 15.38m to claim the gold medal and break the school record. That mark of 15.38m has him ranked 37th in the region. Scott followed up his gold-medal performance at the Patriot League Championships with a third-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 14.63m.
