Mountain Hawks to Visit Saint Joseph's For Wednesday Contest

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh softball team is preparing for its final four road games of the regular season, beginning with a trip to Saint Joseph's for a single game Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday's contest will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Lehigh is coming off of a three-game sweep of Army West Point, which moved the Mountain Hawks to 12-0 in Patriot League play and 34-10 overall. Senior Emily Cimino delivered a walk-off two-run double in the bottom of the seventh to lift Lehigh to a 4-3 victory in the opener. The Mountain Hawks then swept a Saturday doubleheader, winning game one 4-1 behind junior Brooke Cannon's three-run double in the bottom of the sixth and taking game two 6-2 after building a 6-0 lead.

Cimino junior pitcher Katelyn Young earned honorable mention recognition from the Patriot League on Tuesday. Cimino had at least one hit and one RBI in all four of Lehigh's games last week, while Young earned victories in the circle in the first two games of the Army West Point series.

With five RBIs last week, Cimino is up to a team-leading 39 on the season to go along with a .338 batting average and six home runs. Graduate student Carley Barjaktarovich and senior Josie Charles also enjoyed strong weeks at the plate and continue to lead Lehigh in several offensive categories. Barjaktarovich owns a .394 average and leads Lehigh with 65 hits and 17 stolen bases. She is tied for the team lead with 34 runs scored. Charles leads the Mountain Hawks with a .433 average and has contributed 61 hits, 16 stolen bases and 25 runs.

Young has thrown a team-high 135 innings in the circle and has a 16-5 record and 2.44 ERA. First-year Chloe Hess leads Lehigh with a 1.90 ERA and owns a 13-4 record. Young and Hess have 99 and 98 strikeouts, respectively, this season.

Saint Joseph's enters Wednesday's game with a 15-26 record and a 6-13 mark in the Atlantic-10. The Hawks were swept in three games at home by Saint Louis over the weekend.

Kaelin Cash leads Saint Joseph's at the plate with a .368 average, 11 home runs and 28 RBIs. Emily Siler is the Hawks' top pitcher with an 8-12 record, 2.87 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 139 innings.

Saint Joseph's leads the all-time series 28-20. The Hawks have won the last three meetings in the series including a 4-3 final at Leadership Park last year. Lehigh's last win came by a 4-2 score in February 2020.

Following Wednesday's game, Lehigh will head to Holy Cross for a three-game Patriot League series with a doubleheader set for Saturday and a single game Sunday in Worcester, Mass.
