Reigle and 4x800m Relay Squad Earn Medals as the Mountain Hawks Sit Fourth After Day 1 of PLCs

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Lehigh women's track and field team sits in fourth place after day one of the 2023 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships, highlighted by first-year Laura Reigle's first-place performance in the pole vault on Saturday evening.
Navy's women compiled 89 points through the first day, with Army West Point (42.5) and Boston University (28) making up the top three. The Mountain Hawks sit in fourth (23) while Holy Cross (17), Bucknell (10), Lafayette (7.5), Loyola Maryland (6), American (1), and Colgate (0) make up the rest of the women's standings heading into the final day of the championship.
Reigle claimed 10 points for Lehigh when she cleared 4.05 meters to set a Patriot League meet record and break the Lehigh program record.
Also earning a medal on the opening day of the championship weekend was the 4x800-meter squad of first-year Lucy Afanasewicz, sophomore Lauryn Heskin, junior Simone Davey and first-year Abigail Klebe that ran an ECAC qualifying time of 9:04.49 to finish second.
In the pentathlon, sophomore Chelsi Chevannes finished eighth to earn a point for the Mountain Hawks with PR marks in the 60-meter hurdles (9.72), the high jump (1.61), the 800-meter (2:42.97) and total points (3128).
Sophomore Keisha Modi also garnered four points for Lehigh for her fifth-place finish in the long jump, reaching a mark of 5.66 meters for third best in program history and a personal best.
Multiple individuals have qualified for the finals tomorrow, with one being Klebe in the 800-meter event, boasting the fastest time of 2:11.12, good enough for fourth all-time in program history and a spot in the finals.
Junior Ashley Struck broke her own school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.77 and finished seventh in the prelims to earn a spot in the finals. Struck also finished fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.80 and will compete tomorrow in the finals.
Both junior Christina Yakaboski and sophomore Maddison Hayes qualified for the finals in the mile, with Yakaboski finishing seventh with a time of 4:53.39, which is also third-best in program history and Hayes at tenth at 5:05.07.
Senior Ashley Griesmeyer finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles to qualify for tomorrow's finals in a time of 8.85.
On Sunday, the women's shot put, men's high jump and the 60-meter hurdles for the heptathlon will kick things off at 11 a.m. with the men's mile being the first track event of the day at 12:10 p.m. The last event for the night will be the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay, followed by the awards ceremony set to begin at 4 p.m.
