
Lehigh’s Balanced Scoring Effort Earns Series Sweep of Bucknell

The Mountain Hawks (16-12, 11-6 PL) win their second game in a row and their fourth consecutive game against the Bison while Bucknell (11-19, 4-13 PL) has dropped its last two contests heading into their season finale against Lafayette on Saturday.

Lehigh was ahead 4-0 before Bucknell made its first basket, but the Mountain Hawks would go on an 8-0 run before the Bison recorded their next points to put the score at 12-4 with 13:46 to play in the first half. Bucknell stayed within 8-to-12 points of the Mountain Hawks, but Lehigh managed to double-up the Bison, leading by 14 points, 28-14 approaching six minutes left in the first half. The Brown and White would hold a double-digit advantage going into halftime after junior JT Tan make a couple of layups in the final 80 seconds to give Lehigh a 36-23 lead.
Tan opened the second half with a hook shot and scored the last six points for the Mountain Hawks. Bucknell was unable to come any closer than eight points in the second half, as Lehigh was able to sustain a comfortable cushion throughout the half. The largest lead of the night for the Mountain Hawks came with 6:09 left in the game after senior Evan Taylor made a layup for his 10th point of the night. Lehigh would cruise to a 16-point win, 78-62, and earn their fourth straight victory against Bucknell, sweeping the Bison in back-to-back seasons.

A balanced scoring attack for Lehigh had five different Mountain Hawks post double-digit performances, led by sophomore Tyler Whitney-Sidney, who had 20 points and four assists to go with five rebounds and a clean 5-for-5 night at the free-throw line.
Classmate Keith Higgins Jr. scored 15 points and added two boards and an assist while junior JT Tan scored a career-best 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting, to go with a team-high six rebounds and two blocked shots.

Junior Dominic Parolin also contributed 11 points, four boards, a steal and one assist while Taylor tallied 10 points with four rebounds, a block and a steal to round out the five double-digit scorers. Junior Jalin Sinclair totaled five points, four rebounds and an assist while the trio of senior Reed Fenton, sophomore Ben Knostman and first-year Tommy Conniff each recorded a bucket.

Bucknell was led by Alex Timmerman, who recorded a double-double with team-highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds to go with two assists and a steal. Jack Forrest scored 18 points and four rebounds while Xander Rice scored 16 and grabbed one rebound.
Lehigh shot a season-high 54.4 percent (31-for-57) from the floor while shooting just 18.2 percent (2-for-11) from long distance while the Bison shot 37.5 percent (24-for-64) and 35 percent (7-for-20) from behind the three-point line.

The Mountain Hawks committed six turnovers that Bucknell turned into 10 points while the Bison were forced into nine miscues that the Mountain Hawks turned into nine points. The Brown and White were narrowly out-rebounded 34-33 but dominated in points in the paint, 48-34.
The Mountain Hawks will play their final game of the 2022-23 regular season when they travel to Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 28. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and Fox Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.
Lehigh has clinched a home Patriot League quarterfinal game and is still waiting to find out their opponent, but the game will take place on Thursday, March 2 at 7 p.m. inside Stabler Arena. Tickets for the Patriot League quarterfinal are on sale and can be purchased HERE.
